FROM THE DESK OF THE EXECUTIVE PRINCIPAL

It has been a pleasure to lead the College for term 4 this year while Leanne has been on leave. I am so impressed with our students and staff; the number of extracurricular programs that occur every day is a credit to the staff that give up their time and the students that show such passion and energy for them.
Our end of year awards and year 12 graduation this term highlighted some outstanding personal and team achievements. I am excited about how our new Gagal-Ba Multipurpose Centre will add to these celebrations in the future and enable us to host events that can incorporate a number of our parents, carers and guests.
Congratulations to our year 12 cohort who graduated and left us with fond memories of their final few weeks. We are expecting one of our best ever years for ATAR results when the outcomes of the final exams are released.
This term we have seen engaging work experience placements for our Year 10s and earlier this year we witnessed the start of our playgroup program to support the transition to prep.
We have had a productive final few weeks for the year for our P-9 students and some end of year celebrations and activities.
As this is our final newsletter for the year I would like to wish all of our Chancellor State College community and enjoyable Christmas holiday and happy new year.
We look forward to welcoming you all back in 2024.
Rob Watts
Executive Principal

CHAPLAINCY NEWS
We care
Caring means that if we give of ourselves to others, we all can make a positive difference. In our Humanitarian Club recently we have been considering what it must be like to be doing humanitarian work in some of the very challenging situations across the world. We have examined places that are experiencing horrible droughts, famines and resulting disease. We have looked at the need for clean water, food, empowerment, social cohesion, and health care. We spent a bit of time talking about what this might mean in places that are in conflict like the Ukraine, Myanmar and of course Israel/Gaza. One story we encountered was of a humanitarian worker in one of these situations who reported how they were able to reach out, connect, help, and get further support for a child caught in a desperate situation.
This story is like our work in Chaplaincy and the overflow of how this Chappy influence helps bring positive change in our community as we all collaborate together. We all can make a difference. Even one life at a time. Together our impact is sustained and synergised.
This perspective that we all make a difference when we care has been reflected many times this term in our Chappy Happenings.
It started with our great efforts for another successful Colour Run (we raised $44, 288.90).
Thankyou everyone for your participation, support and help to create an amazing event, and raise the needed for our ongoing caring and empowering work.

Other highlights of term 4 include our mentoring program, Chappy Breakfasts, Humanitarian Clubs, MOSAIC and our numerous programs that have supported students and families. About 35 Volunteers currently offer their time across the College. This includes placement students from USC and other colleges and community volunteers supporting our work. We have more placement students coming online next year (especially OTs) and these partnership with training organisations, especially UniSC, is very helpful.

The past few weeks include a mighty heartfelt thanks to placement students in our mentoring program and other specific focus programs: EPIC Bikes (Year 5-6 girls, Year 4-6 boys, Year 7 boys), our Preppie, Year 1, Year 2 programs.

Our collaborations with local community groups and businesses have brought encouragement and care through many different connections. With Hibiscus Retirement Village this has meant an overflow of joy for our students, families and recipients of singing, dancing, storytelling and community connections. Local businesses including Poppys, Dutchys, Sushi, Banjos continue to support by special care days, hosting catchups, and goods to help families.

This year again we have joined together in our “We Care: Christmas Care Boxes” initiative. Boxes placed in classrooms have received non-perishables and collected, collated, and repacked by our humanitarian teams to share with families.

I look forward to continuing our Chaplaincy journey together in 2024 and beyond. Next year I continue in a role that I picked up earlier this year with SU Australia supporting our team of Chaplains and onboarding new Chaplains on the Sunshine Coast as Field Development Manager two days a week.
Working alongside Chappy Anita has been a huge blessing. She is a valued co-worker I appreciate the synergy between us.

CHAPPY ANITA BAILLS
It’s hard to believe it’s been 12 weeks already since starting at Chancellor, this time of year just seems to pass so quickly. I am slowly starting to find my way around the two campuses a bit better and have met so many lovely staff and students. This term has seen me generally at the Secondary Campus on Mondays and Primary campus on Thursdays.
One of the definite highlights was popping in to check out the Arts Gala event at Secondary and seeing all the amazing talents on display. Many art pieces being the result of weeks and months of hard work.
Primary Campus
The Colour Run was an amazing opportunity to watch students and staff have some super messy fun while raising money at the same time. It also afforded me the opportunity to meet students and staff en--masse. Being slimed however was an interesting sensation - I was glad I got to share the load with Chappy Shane on that one. A big thanks to all the students and parents who worked hard on achieving donations.
I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to sit in on a number of Humanitarian Club meetings at the Primary School. The students that take part in this program are great examples of the values that our College holds. It was wonderful to hear their often-insightful thoughts on a variety of topics.
It was a privilege to be part of a Year 7 transition program with some of our Year 6 experts. These students got to experience and give feedback on the transition process prior to the larger cohort transition days. The students gave some very valuable feedback, and it was a great opportunity for them to air some of their concerns or fears about what the move to high dchool means for them. A big thank you to Amy Stevens from the Secondary Campus for allowing me to partner with her on this wonderful process. I also had the opportunity to take part in some lunch activities at our feeder school's transition days and got to meet some of the new students joining our College in 2024.
With Year 6 graduation last week I had the wonderful opportunity to get to know a few of the Year 6 girls better. The students came up with an idea for a decorative banner that was put up at the graduation celebration day. It was a joy to chat with the students while we created the banner.

With the Colour Run taking up a large part of my time when I first started, it has been great this term to start to build connections outside of this space. I have had the opportunity to play some games with a few Prep and Year 1 students and to also be part of some mentor sessions at the campus.
Secondary Campus
Last term I conducted a quick survey of some of the Year 7 students asking what sort of activities they would like to do in their lunch breaks. Based on those answers I put together a program for this term. We had giant yard games, a LEGO challenge and art activities but by far the most popular was the Skipping Challenge! So many students were keen to show their skipping prowess, so much so that they wanted to do it both breaks that day. These activities have been a great way for me to get to know some of the Year 7 students and for them to meet me.
Part of the Year 7 lunch program has also been to work on a collaborative canvas which will go across with the students to the Year 8 area next year. The students all put forth suggestions on what they would like to be on the canvas and then it was voted on. The winning phrase was “Never back down, Never give up!”.

Last term, being at the campus on a Friday, I was able to watch the students take part in the fun activities that Fusion Youth run during the lunch break. Students had a lot of fun and so many were keen to take part and engage in the challenges.

Having a keen interest and passion around visual art, it has been wonderful to pop into the art rooms occasionally during second break. There are so many talented students, and it is wonderful to see their work flourish under the caring supervision of our amazing art teachers.
I have had the wonderful opportunity too to pop in and say hi to some of our students and mentors that take part in the mentoring program.
CARING BRINGS POSITIVE CHANGE
You might hear the words of the song “Feed the World: Do they Know it’s Christmas” performed by an ensemble of artists called Band-Aid over the next few weeks. Perhaps, this year, in many ways, its lyrics mean more than ever….
“It's Christmas time, there's no need to be afraid
At Christmas time, we let in light, and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmas time
…. You ain't gotta feel guilt just selfless
Give a little help to the helpless….
…. Let them know it's Christmas time again”.
We may not get to “feed the world”. But together we can all make a difference. Let’s try some simple kindness and some way to show we are there to appreciate, esteem and encourage someone else. Not just because its nearly Christmas, but because it is one of the best things we do as Humans: we share, we show compassion, we support one another, we care.
Chappy Anita
Thankyou Chancellor. We are very appreciative for all our volunteers, supporters, staff, students, families, community, LCC, and the significant and wonderful support from P+C for the honour to be Chappy’s and bring Hope and Life and Care together.

CONGRATULATIONS TO SANDI WALLACE
Congratulations to Chancellor State College teacher Sandi Wallace, for winning the Fisher Electorate 2023 Educator of the Year award.
Sandi teaches our world-famous Robotics teams, STEM, and engineering subjects across both our primary and secondary campuses.
She was also recently recognized at Chancellor State College's Celebration of Excellence Awards night, where she received an Executive Principal's Award.
Sandi continues to make our school proud with her dedication and the joy she brings to her students. Congratulations, Sandi.

PRIMARY NEWS
FROM THE PRIMARY CAMPUS PRINCIPAL

As we approach the end of another incredible year at Chancellor State College, I find myself reflecting on the special journey we've shared together. Our campus has been filled with laughter, learning, and the vibrant energy of our exceptional students.
I’d like to start by extending my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated staff. Your tireless efforts, passion, and commitment have shaped a nurturing environment where our students thrive. Your unwavering dedication to their growth and learning have truly made a lasting impact. A number of our exceptional staff retired throughout the year and we wish them all the very best – Mrs Donna Russell, Mrs Susan Tagney-Howell and Mrs Julie-Clare Vivian. This year we also say farewell to one of our long serving teachers and leaders, Mrs Kate Hamley, who begins as the Head of Special Education at Palmview State School next year. I wish her a wonderful next step in her career journey.
To our parents, thank you for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your children. Your support, whether through volunteering, attending events, or simply encouraging your child at home, plays a crucial role in their success. Your partnership is invaluable.
To our incredible students, congratulations on a year filled with hard work and achievements across various areas. Your enthusiasm and determination have truly shone bright, and we couldn't be prouder of each and every one of you.
As we bid farewell to this academic year, I reflect on the shared moments of joy, discovery, and triumph. It has been a journey marked by teamwork, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence.
Our campus-wide focus on Writing this year ensured every child was planning, drafting, editing and revising their original pieces on an almost daily basis. Many of our students turned this into competition worthy entries, entering in the Lions Writing Competition, or were invited to join a Writing Excellence group whose individual pieces were published in an anthology and shared with our local retirement-living neighbours. Mrs Danielle Curran, Mrs Ali Muller and Mrs Suzanne Taylor continue to lead and guide our school as we remain focused on English skills next year, particularly in the effective teaching of reading from Prep to Year 6.

In the teaching of Mathematics, we continue to lead the way for local schools, with Mrs Rachel Wise asked to present on our mathematical philosophy and our approach to teaching mathematics at a Brisbane academic conference. We hosted the second round of the QAMT Maths competition where our team came 3rd, led by Mrs Naomi Guttridge, our Mathematics Pedagogy Mentor.

Athletically, our students continue to shine, in a wide range of sports and pursuits. Our Year 5 and 6 students participate weekly in our excellence and extension programs for Touch Football, Netball and Football. These students train with our coaching teachers, Mr Aidan Alefosio, Mr Julian Edwards, Mrs Kirsten Durbidge and Mrs Peta Johnson, and then compete across the coast in competitions such as The Sunshine Coast All Schools Touch Competition, The Queensland All Schools Touch Competition, the Lightening Cup Competition, and the South East Queensland Football competition. Each of these programs continue to grow, inspired by our passionate teaching staff, who also bring these sports into playtimes through competitive interhouse competitions that emphasise team work and skill development.

Our students continue to look for opportunities to give back to our community and world, with our Environmental Portfolio, led by Mrs Fiona Towler and Mrs Sacha Alefosio, participating in the Australia Day Schools Clean Up event, the Sunshine Coat Council Linen Recycling Scheme and Beach Clean Up day. This portfolio of students also led a week of fundraising and awareness raising events for Environment Week. This included an inaugural Swap Mart of toys and clothes, tree Planting for shade, colouring and Art/ photographic competitions, and a free dress day to promote recycled materials, with all money raised going towards the purchase of gardening tools.

In the creative arts, our Primary Small Ensemble ‘Poco’ Strings, under the tutelage of Ms Andrea Risby-Jones, won third prize at the Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod. Our Primary Wind Ensemble and Primary Brass Ensemble, conducted by Mrs Jodie Lutherborrow, were applauded by the judges, called “a joy to hear”, with First Place awarded to Wind Ensemble.
In a school widely known for our world champion robotics teams, we see these brilliant students begin in primary-campus based programs, designed and taught by Mrs Sandi Wallace, this year’s outstanding recipient of the Fisher Educator of the Year award. In October our students competed in the FIRST Lego League Regional event, with our primary STEMINA Teal team winning the Engineering Award. At the subsequent National Event, this same team, comprised of seven Year 5 students were awarded the Core Values Award. This is given to the team who displays extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit, knows they can accomplish more together than they could as individuals, and shows each other and other teams respect at all times.

We farewelled Chappy Ben and welcomed Chappy Anita, and continued to feed over 450 children every week at Chappy’s Breakfasts. In addition, through the dedication and organisation of Chappy Shane and Mr Jayme Field, our Colour Run raised $45,000 this year. This money will help us to continue to deliver our student and family support, Chaplaincy programs and services. Our next Colour Run will be in the first term of 2025, allowing more time to fundraise and organise.

Our commitment to partnering with our parents and carers remains core to our philosophy here, and we were excited to continue traditions such as Book Week and Holiday Hat Parades, Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day celebrations, and Under 8s day, as well as begin new ventures such as the Prep Picnic on the Green, Prep and Year 1-3 Discos, and our latest event – the Christmas Carols picnic.

Extra-curricular activities continue to add a much-appreciated depth to our student’s educational experience, with our Chess students, under the care of Mrs Shirley Mackay, regularly competing against one another, including against our Year 12 students, and competing in the Sunshine Coast Inter-School Chess competition where our teams placed 1st and 3rd.
These achievements, big and small, have filled us with pride. From academic accomplishments to artistic endeavours, the growth of our students has been nothing short of remarkable. Each child's unique strengths and talents contribute to the vibrant tapestry of our school community, and we are forever grateful for each and every one of our students.
As we embark on a well-deserved holiday period, I wish each member of our community a joyous holiday season filled with warmth and cherished moments with family and friends.
Thank you for being part of the Chancellor State College family. Your collective efforts make our school a truly special place. Here's to another year of growth, dressing up, laughter, and success.
Kind regards,
Kyla Bonney
Principal – Primary Campus

Playgroup Launched at Primary
Early this year Chancellor State College launched our new Playgroup program where every Monday and Thursday we welcomed mums, dads, bubs and toddlers to play and have fun.
Since then we have had over 40 families join us - some traveling from other parts of the coast to meet friends at our playgroup as part of their weekly catchup.
Others are dropping older kids at school and staying around to let younger siblings have some playtime.
Playgroups are a vital resource for non-school aged children to play, learn and interact together in a safe environment and also for parents and carers to come together and meet others.
Our program in 2024 will have some fun themed days such as Book week and Grandparents Day and guest speakers.
If you are interested in joining us for Playgroup in 2024 Email acroo45@eq.edu.au for more information.

A Busy Year at the Primary Library
It’s only at this time of year that we become conscious of just how much children and teachers love books because our shelves finally look full! I wish to thank our talented teachers and teacher aides for their efforts on behalf of the library – whether borrowing books, chasing overdues, recommending a book, sharing their love of reading, or returning thousands of resources. Your dedication to the reading cause never goes unnoticed. My gratitude also goes to the hardworking Year 6 Library Leaders who have helped throughout this year. Student and staff loans total about 7500 books per week, so the mighty efforts of our Leaders in returning and reshelving are truly appreciated.
I also need to thank all parents and guardians for your efforts in tracking books, supporting Book Club, donating resources, and most of all, encouraging reading. I hope that you have seen your children come home with a book or two this year that truly excited and inspired them. As a teacher or parent, there are few things more rewarding to observe.
We also have a core of dedicated and priceless volunteers that ensure the turnaround time between purchasing books and borrowing them is as short as possible. Is now a good time to ask for volunteers? We’d love even an hour of your time in our library – there is always something to do.
Have a restful holiday and I hope that at least one rectangular present is left under the Christmas tree for you and yours.
Tracey Hill
Primary Teacher Librarian

PREP-YEAR 2 NEWS

Prep 2023
Thank you to all who have contributed to a very successful year in Prep to Year 2. Highlights for us have been our year of building community. This has occurred in many ways, and not in the least part to our wonderful PiP (Parent Involvement Program) Reps who have helped connect our school with our parents and kept us up to date, for the most part, of happenings. The connection in class between families is a big part of this and we thank you for all the hard work you have done.
Other highlights this year have been our Holiday Hat parade, Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day, and Prep Picnic. We are very excited for our upcoming Christmas Concert and we look forward to building on all these things in 2024.
Prep transition has occurred over the last semester. We have welcomed our new students and their families in a variety of ways including information sessions, open classrooms and two afternoons of “Prep Class” with teachers, teacher aides and new classmates. Our Meet the Teacher Day is our culminating activity where new students will meet their 2024 teacher and their classmates. On that same day, our current Prep -Year 2 cohort will move up a year level and meet their new teacher and classmates. A very exciting time for us all.

Learning Braille
Nine of our students from around the region who are learning to read and write with braille, met at Chancellor Primary for a Braille Fun Day. We played braille games, learned how to access audio books on our braille devices and played some social sports in the hall. In the afternoon, we had a “Music is Fun” session run by Dotted Beats which was outstanding. Everyone had a lot of fun, made new friends, had a chance to show off their braille skills and also had a go at some new things. A great day was had by all!

Prep News
We have loved learning and sharing our ideas and observations about how and why objects move as we explored the Science unit “Move It”. We particularly enjoyed the challenge of creating paths using our newly purchased marble runs.
Swimming has been another highlight of this very busy term. We eagerly looked forward to our Thursday swimming sessions and bus ride to and from the pool provided many opportunities for interesting conversations with our friends and teachers.
Throughout the term we immersed themselves in the world of books, delving into characters, their traits, and actions. Our classrooms buzzed with discussions as our prep students passionately shared their preferences for these characters. Two standout characters that sparked vibrant discussions about greedy and selfish behaviour among our students were Pig from "Pig the Pug" and the Highway Rat from "The Highway Rat." In contrast, the characters “Leo the Lion “and “Gerald the Giraffe” warmed our hearts with their acts of kindness and empathy.
Year 1 News
The final term of school has been busy for the year one students starting with Colour Run in Week 2. This bright and colourful fund-raising event was very popular with the obstacle course, disco, waterslide and relay games. Students were very excited to receive their prizes last week, as a reward for their efforts. The swimming program began in Week 3 with students of different skill and confidence levels visiting Buderim Pool each Wednesday. The final lesson was a highlight with students enjoying the inflatable and a variety of water games. Our Open Classroom in Week 4 to celebrate Education Week was a wonderful opportunity for parents to see classroom routines and be involved in learning activities with their child. In Week 6, students dressed up in an 80’s theme outfit and danced along for the Year 1 to 3 disco. Classroom learning included a personal timeline for HASS and students loved bringing in photos from their baby and toddler days and sharing memories. We read a number of picture books with interesting characters and entertaining storylines and worked in small groups to choreograph dances. We all enjoyed our Christmas concert and family picnic this last week of school. Thank you to all families they came.

Year 2 News
This term, the Year 2s loved learning all about the continents of the world. Reading, creating and performing poems proved to be very entertaining. We enjoyed taking our performing skills to new heights at our recent Christmas concert.
We learnt all about the elements of drama and how to be the best performers. We worked in groups to rehearse and present a poem of our choice to the class. We needed to use expression, props, gestures and move around the stage.
During Education Week, we opened our classroom and invited our families in to share our learning. We made blue spheres using papier mache and then we had to construct the globe by adding the continents and oceans with our special people.
We loved participating in swimming during term 4! We practised a lot of different water safety skills to help keep us safe in the water. We loved our last session which included the inflatable, diving, noodle races, and other water games.

Open Classrooms
Earlier this term we opened our classrooms to parents and families during State Education Week. It was wonderfully supported from our community and a great opportunity for our families to see the amazing work our teachers are doing, and more importantly what our students are producing. On behalf of the Year 3 and Year 4 students and staff thank you for supporting this event.

3D Class News
In our class this term we have been practising our active listening and contributing during Show and Tell. We love to hear what our classmates have to share about the books they’ve read and the reflections they have on the year. We have also been learning about the language and organisational choices writers make when constructing texts. We are writing our own persuasive, informative and information texts based on our interests. In Technology we have been learning about the design principles of solar cookers. We are now designing and constructing our own. We can’t wait to test them out by making smores.

3G Class News
For English, 3G have been writing narratives. We have looked at how to write a Sizzling Start, one of them being how to use onomatopoeia to effectively start a story. We then did some onomatopoeia artwork to decorate our classroom. We also had a ball tackling our Solar Cooker Challenge.

4R Class News
Year 4R has been busily working on written persuasive arguments throughout Term Four. Persuasive devices such as rule of 3’s, rhetorical questions, repetition, personal pronouns, high modality emotive words, facts, exaggeration, and alliteration were all used creatively to change people’s opinions about certain controversial topics. Visual artwork not only assists students with their creative flair, but also assists them in recognising the importance of presentation in other key learning areas. Tasks included hot and cold colours, improvised sketches and indigenous dot painting.

4D Class News
This term Year 4 are using their persuasive language and techniques to persuade others. We have worked together in groups, sharing our thoughts on given topics and writing sentences using devices such as: Rule of 3, Repetition, Rhetorical Questions, Exaggeration, Facts and Alliteration. Students were set a challenge to try and convince Mrs Dorr to take the class outside for a game of their choice during learning time. Students worked in groups to produce a text. We then chose one group’s work to BUMP IT UP! Here is our BEFORE (written text) and AFTER (typed text) samples. Watch out parents! Your children WILL DEFINITELY have improved negotiation skills by the end of the term!

4C Class News
4C have been working hard in History and HASS this term, interpreting details within various sources.

3/4W Readers Cafe
Earlier this term Year 3/4W had a great time in their Reader’s Café. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to share their love of reading in a creative relaxed atmosphere.

Chess Update
Earlier this term, both Chancellor’s Secondary and Primary Chess clubs came together to run our Annual College Chess Championship for 2023. The students all had a great day and played some impressive chess. Our Year 6 and Year 12 players got a final chance to shine and walked away with several prizes while our next generation also rose to the occasion.
In the Secondary Championship, Elias H and Rafael F finished equal second on 5/7. Elias received the silver medal on tiebreak with Rafael getting the bronze. Year 12 Isaac M is our Secondary Champion for the 2nd year in a row, finishing undefeated on 7/7.
Our Primary Championship was one of the closest competitions we’ve seen in a long time. Four Year 3 students finished on 4.5/7. The tiebreak split them to award our Junior Primary Champion. Kristian S finished 4th narrowly missing out on a medal but received a merit ribbon for being so close. Just ahead of Kristian on tiebreak, Connor F finished 3rd with Lennox C 2nd. Our Junior Primary Champion for 2023 is Tony T.
The Senior Primary Championship for Year 4-6 students was also super close. Andy P and Celestin L both finished on 5/7. They were completely equal on the 1st and 2nd tiebreak method and we had to rely on a 3rd rare tiebreak to split them. In the end, Celestin received a merit ribbon for finishing 4th while Andy took home the bronze. In 2nd place, only losing 1 game against our champion, was Eddie F on 6/7. Finally, our 2023 Senior Primary Champion is Year 6 Haven B.
Congratulations to the prize winners but also to all the students who took part in this amazing day. Thank you to Martin Harmon from Gardiner Chess who coaches our chess students each week, Shirley McKay for her support and passion for chess, and Ms Guttridge for also supporting the program. Looking forward to bigger and better things for our chess program in 2024.

BYOD
The use of ICT’s (Information & Communication Technology) is integral in the delivery of curriculum at Chancellor State College. Students from Year 3 to Year 6 are encouraged to bring their own laptop to school every day. BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) allows for students from Year 3 to purchase their own laptop and use it at school. Students who have their own laptop will have greater accessibility to the online learning platforms and curriculum & assessment content that teachers are engaging with, in the classroom each day. Teachers are also consistently being provided with Professional Development linked to the service delivery of the curriculum through the use of laptops in the classroom.
The College does provide a small bank of laptops for each classroom; however these must be equally distributed amongst those students in the classroom who do not have a BYOD, and this may limit the opportunities students have to engage with the curriculum.
The BYOD device from home must fit the minimum specifications as outlined in the Laptops Handbook 2023 on the College website. To find out more visit – https://chancellorsc.eq.edu.au/extra-curricular/computer-and-internet
Instructions on how to download the free MS Office suite of software is also available under BYOD resources on our website. Further details, including video tutorials for connecting Windows and Apple at school and at home can also be located, as to A Parent & Carer’s Fact Sheet which will support you setting up your child’s laptop, along with answering any questions you may have.
Over the coming months as your child gets closer to starting the New Year, you may wish to discuss this further with your child at home or do some research around what might be a good laptop for your child. If you have any questions, you may wish to speak to your child’s class teacher or please don’t hesitate to contact the College IT Manager, Dean Huby if you have any IT related queries dhuby0@eq.edu.au.
I would like to take the opportunity to wish our school community the very best over the Christmas Summer holiday period. I hope that you take this opportunity to spend some time with your child/children, family and friends during this special time of the year. Thank you for another fantastic year. I will again be the Deputy Principal for these year levels in 2024, and I look forward to seeing you back in the New Year, which commences on Monday 22 January.
Regards,
Chris Hay
Year 3/4 Deputy Principal

YEAR 5-6 NEWS
Writers Excellence Program
Recently, our intrepid writers from the Chancellor State College Writers Excellence Group ventured out to the Hibiscus Retirement Village on a daring quest to share our intriguing stories with the residents, who have slightly more life experience than our students. The goal of the expedition was to allow the residents to hear gripping, moving stories from our students. Our students were selected for the program based on their academic results but mostly on their flair for telling a good yarn. Story telling is a ancient art that transcends generations. Like villagers of old, gathering around the fire, or in the case of the Hibiscus Retirement Village, around welcoming tables, our students and residents met in the Community Hall. We shared our stories and they shared theirs.
‘Talking with Valerie about her war experiences, I got a real insight into war and its effect on families.’, said Mia.
‘Talking with Joanne, made me feel very special.’, said Elsie.
“I felt listened to and that they took us seriously.’ explained Bella.
‘I was so proud to see my writing in a published book.’ expressed Ella.
Their lifelong wisdom and our common experiences made the excursion highly valued by our students. Each group walked away with something special, and a stomach full of lovely fruit.

Year 5 Term 4 Wrap
The end of the year is here already. It has been a term full of mixed emotions as we say goodbye to the students in our classes. The year 5 teachers and support staff would like to take this opportunity to thank the students for their commitment and hard work throughout the year. Many students have achieved personal goals, learnt new skills and made new friends.
This term we have been focussing on how to write an information report. Research skills became a major focus for the beginning of the term. We used books and online sources to find information.
The students had to choose relevant information, and summarise key ideas. It has been a lot of fun learning to use the features in Word. Students had to insert text, pictures, captions and even create a timeline.
In Maths students learnt many ways to solve the four operations. A main focus was to choose a strategy that was efficient and allowed for accuracy as well.
Of course, the colour run was a highlight for this term. Congratulations to 5J for having the most students registered in Year 5.
In Science we explored states of matter. Specifically, why states of matter change between solids, liquids and gases. The classes have conducted a number of experiments throughout the term. The students have been heavily focusing on learning about the properties of gases. They have created gases from solids and liquids, as well as conducted experiments to understand how gas moves around a room. For our final experiment, we are witnessing liquid water turn into a gas through the process of evaporation. The students have created an experiment where identical water containers are left in the sun. However, one of the containers is covered up. Half the class thinks the covered water will be able to escape, while half the class thinks it is impossible for the water to evaporate through the container. The students will track the progress of the evaporation and discuss what impacts the evaporation of water.
Our open classroom was lots of fun as we showed our visitors how to turn solids into liquids into solids again with jelly making, and make predictions about the change that ice-cream makes to soft drink. A yummy way to do science!
In HASS our topic this term has been Journeys of Exploration in 19th century Australia.
A big question for us was “How did exploration and the expansion of the colony impact on those who lived there at the time?” We studied a First Nations Map of Australia to discover that the explorers were not mapping and claiming an empty land. In fact, many explorers owed their lives to the Indigenous people they met along the way and whose land they travelled through.
We plotted on maps the journeys of famous explorers like Burke and Wills and Ludwig Leichhardt and wrote an information report on Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson who ‘found’ a passage through the Blue Mountains to the fertile plains beyond.
We also used art to explore and represent the different perspectives held by colonisers and the First Nations People of the time. Swimming was also a highlight and the carnival in week 9 was a huge success.
Finally, congratulations to our incoming school captains for 2024 Elsie, Ovik, Ava and Koen.
We hope all families enjoy the summer holidays.
5D Term 4 Report

5J Term 4 Report
It has been a term full of mixed emotions, as I say goodbye 28 students and eight of those students (Koen, Rose, Preston, Xavier, Kade, Paige, Oliver, Ovik) I have taught for two years. We have had a great chemistry of students and a beautiful year.
Of course, the colour run was a highlight for this term. Thank you for all your support with the Colour Run – we await our prize from Chappie for having the most students registered in Year 5.
Our open classroom was lots of fun as we showed our visitors how to turn solids into liquids into solids again with jelly making, and make predictions about the change that ice-cream makes to soft drink. A yummy way to do science! We have also had a wonderful student teacher Miss Mugford, who conducted lots of science experiments.
Congratulations to Ovik for being elected as 2024 School Captain, Koen as Vice Captain, Preston as Community Portfolio Leader and Rose as Environment Portfolio Leader. We are very proud of you all.

Year 6 Term 4 Wrap
Our final year in primary school has been filled with memorable experiences and significant milestones. From the very beginning, we embarked on an Indigenous Design Project, where we learned about and created artwork inspired by the original custodians of this land. Through this project, we not only developed new artistic skills but also gained a deeper appreciation and understanding of our country’s culture. We also participated in the shave for a cure day, where willing participants shaved their heads to raise money and support for cancer research.
One of the highlights of our year was receiving our senior shirts, a symbol of our journey through primary school and a reminder of the friendships we have formed along the way. Another highlight was our trip to Tangalooma, where we had the opportunity to explore and appreciate the natural beauty of a small portion of quite a large island called Moreton Island. During our final year of primary school, we also had the exciting opportunity to develop our own app. Working solo, we brainstormed ideas, coded and designed our apps from scratch. This experience not only enhanced our technological skills but also fostered our creativity. Many of us embarked on a competitive journey of interschool sports. While some kids stayed at school and enjoyed sports like oztag and cricket, others travelled to compete against other schools. Students who participated in touch football, football, netball, or rugby league as members of a team represented our school with great distinction and success.
Throughout the year, we have had the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities that have added depth and excitement to our lives. From the thrilling experiments with Bunsen Burners in the science lab to the exhilarating surfing lessons at Mooloolaba beach, our year has been filled with unforgettable moments and valuable learning experiences. Read on to hear what some students had to say about their weekly Surf Skills lessons this term:
- Emma has learnt all about rips and how the waves work, and thought the bodyboarding sessions were so much fun.
- Sandul thinks that Surf Skills is a really fun excursion and he loves our sessions at the beach because the instructors have really taught him about surf awareness. He also stood up on a surfboard for the first time ever, which has got Sandul thinking about taking up bodyboarding and surfing as a hobby. Sandul can’t wait to go surfing again already!
- Riley said that Surf Skills has been the best thing he has ever done and he has really loved every part of the lessons.
- Amber has enjoyed learning how to surf and visiting the beach for PE sessions this term. Next time Amber goes to the beach she now feels more confident knowing surfing techniques and importantly, where the danger zones are in the ocean.
These activities have not only broadened our horizons and fostered a love for exploration but have also taught us essential skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving. They have also allowed us to discover our passions and develop a deeper understanding of the world around us. Whether it was igniting flames and witnessing chemical reactions unfold under the careful guidance of our science teachers or riding the waves and feeling the rush of adrenaline as we caught our first waves, these activities have left a lasting impact on us. We have learned to appreciate the beauty of science and nature and have discovered new interests and talents along the way.
Everyone in the Year 6 team is so very grateful for our amazing year six teachers and of course the teacher aides. Thank you for all you hard work leading us to success.
Altogether this year has been an exhilarating one with many fun-filled, life-long learning experiences along the way. Our journey will be one to remember for aeons and will stick with us kids forever. We certainly do hope everybody has a wonderful holiday and festive season as we gear ourselves to embark on the next thrilling adventure of conquering high school.
2023 Primary Captains Term Report
Following are snippets from our primary school captains and vice captain speeches from the year 6 graduation.
Lola - Vice Captain
This year in grade six, we have had amazing opportunities, like the roller Disco, the Coolum waterpark, surf skills, school discos and many more.
As school captain, I have taken part in many amazing things, and I am so excited to pass on my role to the 2024 school captains. Ethan, Harrison, Savanna and I are extremely grateful that we had the responsibility of school captains and are also sad that it is over so soon.
When I first applied for a captaincy role, it was so exhilarating to hear my name going through to the next stage of interviewing, and I hope the next captains feel the same way as we did.
Yes, I am sad that it’s over, but a new journey is ahead of each one of us. Thank you for choosing me as your female Vice Captain for 2023!

Harrison - Vice Captain
My favourite thing about Year 6 has been camp. Camp has been a wonderful experience because of all the activities that happened. The activities were sand tobogganing, feeding the dolphins, snorkelling and a bushwalk. My top 2 favourite/ activities were sand tobogganing and snorkelling. Surf skills was an awesome experience as well. My favourite thing about surf skills was surfing I loved the feeling of standing up on a surf board for the first time.
The thing I will miss the most about primary school will be staying in one class room for the whole day instead I will be rotating around different classrooms. I will also miss being the seniors of primary school because, when I go into secondary school it will feel like I am starting prep all over again.
At secondary school I am mostly looking forward to starting early (8:30am) and finishing early (2:30pm) and working on the Bunsen burners and the indoor tuckshop.
Everything that I have done would not have been possible without the help of the teachers, my friends, and the P&C.
Big thanks to everybody that has helped out this year nothing would have been possible without you.

Savannah – Captain
Year 6 at Chancellor has been the busiest and most stressful, but definitely my favourite year so far. We are so lucky to be at a school that provides us with so many amazing opportunities. It’s hard to pick a favourite between the discos, the rollerdrome, surf skills, colour fun run, the aquapark, football sports excellence and interschool sports and the amazing Year6 camp at Tangalooma.
I’ve personally had the added benefit of some extra special activities as captain. Some of my favourite experiences have been, running school parades, meeting our high school ambassadors, speaking at the year 5-12 awards ceremony, attending the Year 6 shirt ceremony in Maleny and meeting the Minister Grace Grace whilst seeing the new high school hall for the first time.
I will really miss this primary school and all the people in it. Although it’s so much bigger than where I came from, the love, support and encouragement I’ve received have made it feel like home. It will be hard going from the leaders of the school to starting as the youngest all over again. Hopefully our Year 7 cohort will be as amazing as everyone in year 6 this year, thank you everyone in year 6, all of you have helped me in your own way, to have an incredible year and it’s a year I will never forget.
To the new school captains, I give you this advice; It will not always be easy, and sometimes, it will be really tough. Take each challenge a day at a time, and reach out to the incredible staff and peers you have as they are always there to help. Remember that you can’t do this job alone, and as long as you work as a team, you’ll always get the job done.
I would like to thank Mr Field for all you have done for us, and I’m not just talking about the chocolate milk! Without you to keep us organised, we wouldn’t have accomplished nearly as much. Thank you to all my teachers for accommodating my extra activities as captain this year, and to all my past teachers, peers, staff and students, for helping make me the student and person I am today.

Ethan – Captain
My highlights for this year would be going to Tangalooma for year six camp and all the fun activities such as snorkelling, sand tobogganing, bush walk and having to share a room with my friends. Another highlight for me was surf skills. It was so fun because I got to be in the water and stood up on a surfboard but I fell of a lot of times but that is just leaning. Another highlight was the colour run because I got to help out and spray colour at people and I got sprayed as well, my shirt was so colourful. This year I also enjoyed inter school sport with my friend’s because we all like soccer (football) we did very well on our 2nd day we won most or all of our games.
Being a leader, I have learnt that you have to be very committed, be on task, be up to date with your assessment, and, if you are having trouble your friends will help you. Being captain was fun, but it can be a little stressful at times, it can sometimes be a bit nerve racking going up on stage especially the big Anzac speech in front of 4-12 at the USC stadium but I did well, and I had fun.
Transitioning to the secondary; I am going to miss how we get to stay in one class all day and that we will have to move around. I will also miss our big oval with the soccer goals, as well as being the oldest grade and being a school leader. I will miss the teachers, friends in younger grades and I will miss Chancellor Primary school.
In the secondary I am looking forwards to buying food from the tuckshop because of all the great foods such as the milk shakes the chips and so much more. I am also looking forward to working in the garden because then we make stuff that we grow, the kitchen so we can make food ourselves and eat things that we make. I hope there is a big play area so that I can play soccer and lots of sport every day and new class rooms because there will be new people and new things to learn and the labs over there are amazing to do science, tech, stem and so much more.
I would like to say a big thankyou to all the people that have helped me in my role this year thankyou principals, teachers, staff, friends and family for being by my side the whole way I really appreciate it.

Mobile phones – Policy

From the beginning of Term 1 2024, all Queensland state school students must keep their mobile phones switched off and ‘away for the day’ during school hours. Notifications on wearable devices, such as smartwatches, must be switched off so that phone calls, messages and other notifications cannot be sent or received during school hours.
The ‘away for the day’ policy will support the college to maintain a strong focus on educational achievement, and student wellbeing and engagement by:
- providing optimal learning and teaching environments
- encouraging increased face-to-face social interactions between students
- promoting the health and wellbeing of students through increased social interaction and physical activity
- reducing the potential for students to be exposed to the negative impacts of the digital world, resulting from unsafe or inappropriate technology use.
Chancellor State College will make use of a lockable pouch system (school-funded) for student devices to support the implementation of the policy. The policy document has been emailed to secondary parents, and includes information on the following topics:
- Overview
- Implementation
- Storage – Lockable pouch system
- Exemptions
- Contacting your child at school
- Payments at the canteen
- When a phone is sighted by a staff member
- Consequences for inappropriate use
The last two weeks of school is noteworthy with numerous students participating in international excursions. Our Senior Humanities students have thoroughly enjoyed Italy and the Football Academy squad has had a great time in Spain and the UK. I trust that all students and staff have had an amazing experience. In September we had students visit Cambodia and Vietnam on a World Challenge trip, I would like to thank everyone involved for making these opportunities happen.
On behalf of the Secondary Campus, I wish each family a relaxing Christmas break. For those not returning, thank you for your support and commitment to your child's learning. To our returning families, we look forward to reuniting with you on Monday 22 January 2024.
Further information about school start-up will be provided to families in January, together with various year-level specific communication.

Principal – Secondary Campus

FROM OUR JUNIOR SCHOOL
Campus Tours and Transition Days
At Chancellor State College we aim to make the transition into secondary schooling as easy as possible for year 6 students and their families and through-out the year hold campus tours and transition days.
Our most recent Year 6-7 Transition days in term 4 saw primary students become familiar with the secondary school environment before starting in the new year. During these days they got to experience a number of activities, such as participating in elective subjects like making pizza in a Home Economics class.
It also gave students an opportunity to find their way around the secondary campus and get to know teachers. This is as important for our Chancellor primary students as much as it is for our feeder primary schools experiencing the Chancellor community for the first time.

Throughout year the year we also hosted secondary campus tours for future students and their families to experience our campus facilities, meet our dedicated staff, visit classrooms, and get a taste of the exciting learning opportunities that await them.
We are really looking forward to welcoming such a talented and enthusiastic group of Year 7 students joining our college community in 2024.

Congratulations to our 2023 Portfolio Leaders
We recently recognised and thanked over 135 students shining bright student leaders for their remarkable contributions to our school community in 2023.
Together they fostered collaboration to igniting change within our community. They have left an indelible mark on our community. A massive thank you to all our teachers involved in facilitating and supporting these leadership opportunities.

Chancellor Leos Club
Chancellor Leos Club have had another successful year working in the school and wider community to raise funds for charities and this was recognised by winning the Buderim Community Group of the Year 2023 Award.
Some of the highlights of the year included a barbeque for the World’s Greatest Shave, a Sleepout for the Homeless and supporting the Colour Run on the primary campus.
The charities we have supported were Reading Dogs, The Leukaemia Foundation and Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre.
A huge thank you to all our members for their hard work throughout the year and the Buderim Lions Club for their ongoing support.
Well done to the team on their great achievements and recognition of all your hard work this year.

Year 7- Ancient Greece
Our Year 7 students embarked on a journey through the annals of history, starting with the rise of the Greek city-states and the birth of democracy. They examined the lives of everyday citizens and explored the role of slaves, women, and children in society. As we delved into the stories of great thinkers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, the students gained a deeper appreciation for the foundations of philosophy and critical thinking. The students learned how the Greeks' architectural marvels, including the Acropolis and Parthenon, continue to inspire modern construction and design.
The unit also delved into the realm of athletics and the Olympic Games, revealing how the ancient tradition continues to unite nations in friendly competition today.
Our Ancient Greece unit served as a springboard for discussions about the broader implications of studying history. By examining how societies have evolved and the legacies they've left behind, students developed a sense of global awareness and an appreciation for the interconnectedness of our world.

FROM THE YEAR 8 DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
This year has been remarkable for this wonderful group of students that I am privileged to have been able to work alongside for the past few years. Rather than going through some of the individual highlights of some of our students, I thought I would instead share an infographic which illustrates just how good this cohort is across the board.

The sheer numbers of students that qualify for our 5C awards is really something to celebrate as these awards are given to students who exemplify exceptional behaviour and make significant contributions to the school community. It is easy to focus purely on the grades that students are achieving but these attributes of care, courtesy, cooperation, challenge and commitment will travel with students long after the curriculum is forgotten.
I more than likely said to students during their process back in 2021 that high school is all about transition – Students come to us as children and leave as young adults. Our only hope is that we work effectively in partnership with families to allow students to show ‘the best we can be’. I acknowledge that this is not always easy and truly appreciate the opportunity to work with students and families within this cohort.
I wish everyone a wonderful holiday period and look forward to seeing what this group of students can do in 2024 and beyond.
Darren Gibson
Year 8 Deputy Principal

Year 8 Landscapes and Landforms
Throughout this unit, our students have delved into the fascinating world of geomorphic processes. They've come to understand how natural forces, such as weathering, erosion, and tectonic activity, have sculpted the Earth's surface over millions of years. They've examined the creation of iconic landforms like mountains, valleys, canyons, and coastlines, and learned how these features contribute to the uniqueness of regions across the globe.
Our Year 8 students had the privilege of learning about the profound connection between land and First Nations peoples. By exploring the rich oral traditions and knowledge systems of Indigenous communities, our students discovered that landforms are not just geological features but integral components of cultural heritage. The stories and traditions of First Nations peoples have deep roots in the land, and this unit provided an opportunity for students to appreciate the spiritual and practical significance of these landscapes.
The Year 8 Humanities unit on landforms and landscapes has laid the foundation for our students to become responsible stewards of our planet. By understanding the delicate balance between natural forces and human interaction, they are better equipped to appreciate the importance of conservation and sustainable practices.
Year 9- Geographies of Interconnectedness
One of the cornerstones of this unit was the examination of how people perceive and define places. Our students delved into the fascinating world of cultural geography, understanding how different communities around the globe construct their own unique notions of home and belonging.
In a world that seems to grow smaller every day, tourism has become a global phenomenon. Our Year 9 students embraced this topic with enthusiasm, learning how travel can enrich one's perspective and contribute to economic and cultural exchanges. They explored the impact of tourism on communities, both positive and negative, and discussed the importance of responsible and sustainable travel.
A highlight of the unit was the in-depth exploration of trade, with a special focus on fair trade practices. Our students became more aware of the intricate network of global trade, and how their purchasing decisions can have a significant impact on the lives of people in distant lands. By studying fair trade, they learned about ethical and sustainable practices that prioritize the well-being of producers in developing countries.
In this unit, students investigated the transformative influence of technology in the modern era, from the globalization of information through the internet to the rise of e-commerce. They explored how technological advances have revolutionized the way we communicate, trade, and travel, creating a global village in which we all play a part.

Chancellor's Math Teams in QAMT Competition!
Congratulations to Chancellor's Math Teams for their participation in the recent QAMT maths competition. This annual event brings together top math students from both private and state schools in the district to showcase their mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills. Results have just been confirmed as we had to patiently wait for all team results to be in, as some schools participated remotely.
Although Chancellor's teams did not secure one of the top three spots to advance to the state finals, Chancellor Team 1, consisting of Elora, Alex, and Pranshu, achieved an impressive 5th place overall. This made Chancellor the highest-achieving State School in the competition, a title we've proudly held for four consecutive years.
Chancellor Team 2, with Jihu, Shiu, and Han, also delivered a strong performance, a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Chancellor Math Teams.
A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Stott for her invaluable support and numerous lunchtime training sessions.
Well done team Chancellor!

SENIOR SECONDARY NEWS

"Definitely the Sistine Chapel" - Toby W
"The Trevi Fountain!" - Laella G
"Watching every student's eyes widen when they walked into Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore to the sound of hymns - goosebumps!" - Miss Chan & Mr Harrison
"St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City" - Hanaka S

Secondary English
Congratulations to several of our secondary students who entered the 'Telling Stories’Competition run in conjunction with Voices on the Coast, USC and the Mooloolaba Rotary Club. These students are highly motivated and creative students who are competing against the most talented students from State and Private Institutions. Well done to all entrants.

Earthwatch Scholarship
Year 11 student, Olivia, successfully applied for an Earthwatch scholarship to conduct scientific research at Boyne Island, near Gladstone, as part of the “Protecting the Coastal Frontier Expedition”.
Held during the September school holidays, Olivia found the week-long program it be an incredible and valuable experience.
Olivia was one of twelve students selected from across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, and the only student selected from the Sunshine Coast to attend this scientific expedition.
Through the scholarship, Olivia was given the opportunity to further develop her skills in scientific research and sampling. This was achieved through the main research project of studying the preferred diet of crabs. Unfortunately, due to coastal pollution and littering, the collected data showed that crabs prefer to eat plastic (particularly polystyrene) over their usual diet of yellow mangrove leaves. This results in digestive tract blockages, ultimately leading to death. Scientific research such as this supports environmental reforms to reduce negative outcomes for fauna and flora.
Olivia also gained experience with conducting numerous microplastic surveys. She utilised transects to collect samples which were then taken back to the on-site laboratory. By using microscopes, Olivia was taught to differentiate between microplastic pieces and fragments of organic materials.
Participation in this expedition complemented Olivia’s passion for the environment and her extracurricular work as a Turtle Care volunteer.
Olivia intends to pursue tertiary studies related to the environment, specifically marine applications.

Debating Team Success
Congratulations to our Senior debating team; Zac, Dakoda, Isaac, Darby and Elias, who performed exceptionally at the Sunshine Coast Schools Debating finals this term.
Their second place finish was a testament to the remarkable dedication, passion, and impressive arguments throughout the competition. All students showcased exceptional talent and we are immensely proud of the journey you've undertaken and the resilience you've shown.
We also would like to thank Mr Caldwell for his coaching, support and guidance that contributed to this amazing result.

Students Take on World Challenge
Over the September holidays, two teams visited Vietnam and Cambodia on their World Challenge Expedition. They learnt about history, visited ancient temples, trekked through the rainforest and volunteered in a local Cambodian school to improve infrastructure for the students. This was such a great experience for our students, and they fully immersed themselves in the culture and the challenge.

Unveiling the Tapestry of Indigenous Rights and Freedoms in Australia
In a display of historical awareness and creativity, Year 10 Humanities students embarked on a journey to explore key events in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Rights Movement since the colonisation of Australia. Students created a unique and insightful timeline that now graces the walls of each of their classrooms. Infused with vibrant colours, Indigenous art and symbols of protest, the timelines serve as reminders of the struggles and triumphs in the Indigenous Rights Movement. Beyond the timelines, students embraced their role as custodians of history. This project not only deepened historical understanding, but also a renewed commitment to social justice within the year 10 cohort.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ms Kaylene Atkinson for sharing her personal journey as part of the Stolen Generation. Her willingness to open up about deeply personal experiences left an indelible impact, that fostered empathy and understanding. Kaylene's poignant story, intertwined with the students' timelines, created a rich tapestry of historical context and lived experience. Our most sincere thanks as always to Kaylene for her continued contribution to our students' education. Real-world perspectives like hers are invaluable in cultivating compassion and awareness, leaving a lasting imprint on students’ educational journey.

Diving into Air Hockey Data Analysis
Year 11 Specialist Mathematics students played Air hockey games on an excursion to Timezone recently to collect data for their assignment on matrices.
The students had to rank the players by developing simple and complex mathematical models that could be used to predict a player’s future success against other players.
Charlie K showed himself to be the player the hardest to beat and Mr Collingwood demonstrated not just that he is a great bus driver but also a pretty skilled Air hockey player.
The students played 64 games over 2 hours with each game out of 7. The students all completed their assessment which contributes 20% to their final year 12 grade.

HEALTH AND PERFORMANCE
Basketball Wrap-up
We would love to acknowledge the outstanding efforts and accomplishments of our secondary Basketball teams this year proving to be the most significant yet, with a total of six basketball teams across the high school showcasing remarkable talent.
Intermediate Navy had a great season only losing one game and narrowly being eliminated in the semi-finals by three points.
The Intermediate Teal team also had a strong season only losing 2 round games and being eliminated in the semi-final.
Another special mention to the senior boys’ team in a tough competition with the standout performance from Morgan Brown scoring 30 points in the final game to upset Matthew Flinders with a win.
The highlight of the year was the Intermediate A boys’ team going undefeated until the final round losing to Peregian Beach College. However, the boys bounced back having the best game of their season during the grand final rematch and winning 55-30. This was an outstanding performance with all the boys making a great contribution.
We wish to acknowledge the dedicated coaches who played a huge role in the success of each team. Erin Boast, Drew Mitchell, Heath Reed, Alec Weston, Shaun Morley, Nyssa Barry, and Darrin Gorman, we appreciate your hard work and commitment. Also to Louis Ilton and Kieran Braun for coaching teams and running before school training sessions.
A special thank-you to the parents who demonstrated unwavering support by ensuring early morning drop-offs, being scorers and attending all games.
Here’s looking forward to our 2024 season!

Football Academy’s European Tour
Around 30 students from our Football Academy have enjoyed an action pact tour of Spain and the UK.
They have had a number of training sessions (some in the snow) and toured behind the scenes of some of the best known clubs from Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Wolverhampton, Chelsea, and Fulham.
They got to experience the buzz of live Premier League games which included meeting Queens Park Rangers (QPR) Australian player Lynden Dykes graciously presenting his jersey post-game.
This trip has been a long time in the making and it has not disappointed.
Thanks to our tour teachers, Bec MacDonald, Jeremy Stewart, Brady Cronks, and Chris Wilkes for leading our students.
Our Football Academy continues to conquer new horizons, develop their skills and make lasting memories on this incredible international tour.

FROM OUR SENIOR SECONDARY DEPUTY PRINCIPALS
Crystal Caton, Philippa Walker and the Senior Schooling Teams
Core 4
Well here we are at the end of Semester 2 2023!
Another amazing term of opportunities for students to grow their skills and further their qualifications in their chosen fields. Learning is a lifelong commitment!
In the Senior School we often reflect on how fortunate we are to be part of these young inspirational beings’ educational journey and cherish the opportunity to walk beside them and their families.
We hope all our families and friends enjoyed our Year 12 Graduation of the Class of 2023. 251 students graduated and 70 students externally graduated (leaving school early to pursue university degrees, apprenticeships, traineeships, fulltime work and further studies at other training institutions).
It was so lovely to see all our students joy as they visited the Primary Campus to reminisce on their early schooling days, before taking a walk of honour through the Secondary Campus where they were farewelled by students through Years 7 to 11, to finally make their way to Gagal-ba Multi-purpose Centre for their Graduation Ceremony with family, friends, staff and students.
A beautiful and special time for our graduates.

Year 12 Formal & Graduation
Congratulations to our graduating class of 2023, who celebrated their formal at the Events Centre in Caloundra back in September.
Dressed to impress, the students had a great time celebrating with their friends, family and teachers. Enjoy these photos.

Year 10
Year 10 students have had a big term with success across the board in all areas. Some of the highlights have included:
- Helping Friends Camp
- Our Creative Arts stars participating in the College Arts Extravaganza, Instrumental Music Gala,
- Our sporting champions representing the College and the State across a number of sports.
- Our STEM frontrunners competing in robotics competitions across the region, creating and racing their engineering CO2 cars
- The completion of nationally recognised certificates in Basic Financial Literacy
- And over 60 students recognised for their achievements at our Celebration of Excellence.
We ended the year with approximately 170 students attending Work Experience, an invaluable opportunity to gain insight into a range of industries and make connections for future employment. Thank you to all those businesses and community members that supported our students.

Year 11
Year 11 students completed the term on their final exam block for 2023. Students displayed excellent exam etiquette and were focused on the best performance they could. It is very important that students complete ALL assignments, exams and competencies for VET certificates that ultimately contribute to their report cards, VET Certificates, QCE and /or ATAR. If your student wishes to discuss changing pathways, please ask them to make an appointment with Guidance Officers, Heads of Department Senior School or Year level Deputy Principal.

Year 12
Year 12 students had a busy Term 4 with preparation for the external exams that took place from Week 4 through to Tuesday Week 7. While students were sitting General external exams, some were completing assignments for Applied subjects, others were completing competencies for their VET courses and a lucky few were picking up extra work shifts.
Week 7 - (the hottest week this year) was filled with numerous activities for the Year 12s to enjoy some special time together at the Bli Bli Aqua Park, followed by a Staff-student BBQ on Thursday before they had guest speakers Michael and Kerri-Lyn Stewart from the Balin Stewart Foundation to talk to the students.
The students came to school dressed in pyjamas for the day to raise money for the foundation. Students also had Diesel from the LAW Program to deliver a very informative session.
Graduation day arrived Friday and the students were certainly excited to see the end of their schooling.
We wish all students the very best in the future and look forward to hearing their adventures.

Student outcomes data will be shared on social media over the summer break. We look forward to celebrating these outcomes along with so many outstanding accomplishments this cohort has already achieved. This year over 70 students received an early offer guarantee at USC with their number 1 preference of study. How exciting is this!
We look forward to working with all students in the Senior School in 2024 and know that we can and are making a difference in our student’s lives. Have a wonderful and safe summer break and see you back at Chancellor in 2024.

Engagement
QCE
A massive congratulations to ALL senior teachers and students as we cycle through the fourth year of QCE. Each year the staff reflect and refine their subject and pedagogy and are continually growing through amazing professional development opportunities. At Chancellor we have staff involved in writing internal assessment, endorsing assessment for schools state-wide, confirming marks for students state-wide, marking external exams for students from around the State, as well as teachers leading other teams of teachers through the endorsement, confirmation and external marking processes state wide. Such a wealth of knowledge that our teachers immersed in and are bringing back to our teams and to our students. We look forward to continue to work closely with QCAA and other external providers to ensure best possible outcomes for our students.

VET
In 2023 over 400 VET Certificates (Certificate II, III and IV) were issued. This is an outstanding number of formal qualifications that students are achieving here at Chancellor. Along with these certificates we currently have 37 Active School Based Trainees and School Based Apprenticeships. 11 students were awarded a Diploma in business from our Year 12 cohort. We are proud to be able to offer a broad range of opportunities for students to gain qualifications whilst working in their chosen career pathway. Well done to all staff and our external partners that enable and support.
Assessment
Over the last four weeks, Year 12 students have completed their external exams, assignments and VET competencies. During the external exams there were 36 exam sessions, 1102 exam papers, 2204 planning sheets, and 10kgs of jelly beans. Well done to our students and the senior schooling staff who supported and facilitated these big days.
In Week 10 this term, Year 11 students’ performance data continues to be analysed and reviewed by the Pathway Review Team (DP SS, GOs, HOD SS QCAA, and HOD SS VET). We are providing success plans for students who need support and initiating data conversations with students that need to reconsider their pathway through senior schooling. If you have any concerns about your student’s pathway selection or future subject selections; please contact Philippa Walker (DP SS) pwalk27@eq.edu.au or Genè Riley gxril0@eq.edu.au (HOD SS QCAA) or Wayne Hoger whoge1@eq.edu.au (HOD SS VET) or our Guidance Officers.

Attendance
Here at Chancellor we are committed to making every minute, every day count in order to ensure every student succeeds. The Attendance rate for Term 4, 2023:
Senior Secondary:
- Year 10 had an attendance rate of 85%
- Year 11 had an attendance rate of 89%
- Year 12 had an attendance rate of 87%.
Attendance does need improvement in 2024 and we look forward to working with all students and families to ensure that students are engaged in the school community, participating in every lesson and doing the work for their future.
We will continue to make student attendance a high priority. Keep in mind that 90% attendance rate equates to 20 days off school within a calendar year which calculates to 4 weeks of learning! Please talk with your child and remind them that ‘every lesson, every day counts’.
